When Should I Get My Air Ducts Cleaned?
If you’re reading this, then you probably have some understanding of the importance of air duct cleaning. You know that it helps keep your indoor air quality high, that it can save energy and that it can reduce the risk of getting sick or having allergies from breathing in dust and other types of particulate.
But are there other reasons to have your air ducts cleaned? The NADCA has come out with a long list of recommendations for when to have your air ducts cleaned. Here are a few of the obvious and less obvious times when calling Induct Clean for your air duct cleaning needs is necessary.
- Particulate accumulation: Obviously, this occurs naturally over time and is the main reason people get there ducts cleaned annually.
- Lowered performance: A build-up of contamination can result in blockages and compromise your HVAC system’s performance. You might here noises that weren’t present before or notice that air pressure is lowered or even non-existant.
- Presence of odors: Simply put, if you smell something bad, give us a call.
- Dirt or debris discharge: Look around your vents. If you see dirt and debris building up, then there could be an issue. We would be happy to check it out!
- Fire, smoke or water damage: Smoke can leave particulates behind and water can cause mold to grow. Always have your ducts cleaned after either type of event.
- Infestation: Mainly the fecal matter left behind by birds and rodents is what needs to be cleaned out. As I’m sure you’re aware, diseases are often spread in this way by pests.
- Construction debris: If you’ve recently had work done in or around your house, then the particulate debris was likely sucked into your vents and could be pumping out harmful contaminates.
- Mold or pollen contamination: When you suspect that the insides of your ducts are covered in mold or pollen, get it checked out right away!
For many of these conditions, an annual air duct cleaning should be enough to keep them at bay. For issues like construction debris, infestation and smoke or water damage, however, you’ll need to more proactive to keep your ducts clean and your air pure.
