Why Should You Have Your Air Ducts Sealed?
In almost all residential construction contractors rarely have the duct system sealed. If you look above your heating/air unit you will see large rectangular boxes called trunk lines. Attached to those trunk lines you will see round metal duct lines that go to your vents. When the contractor assembles this system it is constructed in sections which means that there are multiple seams. When your system is running, place your hand along these seams and you will feel air leaking out, which means that you are paying to cool your basement instead of the rooms that you want the air delivered in. Remember, your thermostat controls your heating/air unit. So if you are losing air in the basement the system will continue to run until the thermostat is satisfied, which costs you more money.
